There&#8217;s plenty of time to learn how to punt!<\/p>\n<p>7.30pm Food served at Victoria Arms<\/p>\n<p>9.00 pm Punts returned to Cherwell Boathouse<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is punting?<\/strong>\u00a0A punt is a flat-bottomed boat with a square-cut bow, designed for use in small rivers or other shallow water. Punting refers to boating in a punt. The punter generally propels the punt by pushing against the river bed with a pole.<\/p>\n<p><em>Why do British pubs usually have Arms in their title?\u00a0<\/em>Many\u00a0<b>pubs <\/b>(public houses licensed to sell alcohol)\u00a0are centuries old, from a time when their customers were often illiterate, but could recognise pictorial signs. Pub names have a variety of origins, from objects used as simple identification marks to the coats of\u00a0<b>arms<\/b>\u00a0of kings or local aristocrats and landowners.<\/p>\n<p>In the event of inclement weather, the local Student Organizing Committee will arrange for taxis to take the group directly to the Victoria Arms.<\/p>\n<h2>Student Career Development Lunch &#8211; Tuesday 9th July<\/h2>\n<p>This event will be held at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chem.ox.ac.uk\/oxfordtour\/bigpanoshow.asp?ID=1151.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Common room and balcony of the Earth Sciences faculty<\/a>. There are two types of applications: one for US Students, and one for Non-US Students (see detailed information below).<\/p>\n<p>Student scholarships cover expenses related to workshop attendance, up to a maximum level. Funds spent beyond the stated award must be covered by other sources. Travel reimbursements will be awarded competitively based on a student&#8217;s proposed level of participation in the workshop (paper presentation, poster presentation, or attendance only) and a letter of recommendation from the student&#8217;s research advisor. Priority will be given to those students who are presenting material and submitting a paper at the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>Due to different sponsor requirements, the application process for students studying in the United States is co-ordinated separately from that for remaining students. Also, note that restrictions may apply to the eligible countries of citizenship for a scholarship, depending on the available funding sources. For information on the application process for your region, please see the appropriate section below.\u2028These scholarships are made available by the generous support of our sponsoring organizations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE: All expenses must be covered by the student prior to, and during, the workshop. Scholarships for US and non-US students\u00a0will be provided by reimbursement (up to a certain amount) following your return from the workshop.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>US Students:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To obtain this reimbursement, you will be required to fill out a Travel Authority Form prior to the workshop and a Travel Expense Summary (TES) after the workshop. Please keep all receipts (except meal receipts) since these will be required to complete the TES. In general, travel reimbursement will be made for the following expenses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Travel (air, train, taxi, bus, airport parking, rental car, parking, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Accommodation<\/li>\n<li>Short Course Registration<\/li>\n<li>Meals other than those provided by the Workshop<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Non-US Students:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You will be required to complete a reimbursement form after the Workshop. Please keep all the receipts. Please be aware that Non-US-scholarships will, unfortunately, only cover part of the total expenses.\u00a0All students who will be awarded a scholarship will get full reimbursement of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Workshop Registration<\/li>\n<li>Short Course Registration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students MAY receive additional PARTIAL reimbursement towards of following expenses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Travel (air, train, taxi, bus, airport parking, rental car, parking, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Accommodation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Be aware that this means that you will have to find additional\/other sources to cover for all expenses not covered by the Non-US scholarship.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Scholarship Application Process for US Students<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Students enrolled at universities in the U.S. who are interested in applying for a scholarship to attend the workshop should complete the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If you plan to present a paper or poster, then submit an abstract for acceptance.
